Conference Topic – Home Composting

Home composting is recycling that continually produces a useful soil amendment, which helps sustain desert soil fertility.

Basic composting science, materials, methods and benefits will be presented with a special focus on useful practices for desert dwellers.

A variety of home composting choices will be discussed to help participants make decisions.

Useful take-home information will help participants get started and / or improve an already chosen composting method.


John Zarola has been a Sandoval County Master Gardener since 2008. He is a founding member of the Bernalillo County Extension Master Composters. Since 2010 John has been a community composting instructor in the science, art, materials, methods and benefits of home composting and soil amending. He also works with local communities, such as Corrales, to establish composting operations to produce compost for community parks and recreation areas
